#GiveBackFridays: City Year

City Year Providence deploys 60 highly skilled AmeriCorps members to serve in six schools, positively impacting nearly 5,000 students. Thousands of students in Providence are at risk for dropping out. The consequences are real: Students who drop out are eight times more likely to become incarcerated and three times more likely to be unemployed. When a student drops out of school it has a lasting effect on our communities.

Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty has been an active member in the City Year community for several years. In 2018, members of our team visited local Providence elementary schools and painted inspirational quotes on otherwise blank walls around campus. This year, we were invited to participate in the Gingerbread Kit Project.

Sponsored by Dave’s Marketplace, Ellie’s Bakery, Gracie’s, and Miriam Hospital, the Gingerbread Kit Project is designed to produce gingerbread-decorating kits that benefit families in need. All proceeds raised will be donated to families of Pleasant View Elementary School.

Sarah Huard, Sales Associate from our Providence office, has been an active member of City Year since graduating from college. She answered the call and asked for at least 6 volunteers to help. Within minutes, she had a full team of colleagues ready and willing to participate in the baking process.

“City Year is a vibrant part of our community and I try to do as much as possible to stay involved,” says Sarah Huard. “I was happy to join the Gingerbread Project, and delighted when so many of my colleagues and friends were just as enthusiastic and willing to engage.”

Huard, along with Carl Henschel, Doug Bell, Karen Wilder, Nelson Taylor, Ben Kean, and Robin Lake arrived at Ellie’s Bakery at 10AM on Monday morning. With the help of three Ellie’s employees and one City Year liaison, our team baked over 350 cookies in two hours.

Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty agents are passionate about giving back to the community. “The team genuinely wants to help and is proud of making our communities a better place to be”, adds Huard. “City Year’s motto is #MakeBetterHappen, and as I looked around the room, I saw a level of character and unadulterated happiness, and I couldn’t help but to think we were doing just that – making better happen.”

Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty Announces Record-Breaking Sale in Watch Hill by Donna Simmons

Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty is proud to announce the record-breaking oceanfront sale of 10 Bluff Avenue for $17,600,000. Within the iconic seaside estate in the village of Watch Hill, the c. 1903 home has been recently renovated by award winning designer Giancarlo Valle. The buyer was represented by Donna Simmons, Sales Associate of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty. The seller was represented by Lori Joyal of Lila Delman Real Estate.

The sale of 10 Bluff Avenue represents the highest recorded single-family property sale ever in Watch Hill, according to data available from the Rhode Island Multiple Listing Service. This is also the highest ever recorded single-family sale statewide. Donna has sold over $30 Million in real estate to date in the Westerly and Watch Hill marketplace.

In 2013, Taylor Swift privately purchased the home just a few doors away for $17,750,000 according to Business Insider. 10 Bluff Avenue is the highest known sale in Watch Hill since then. Bluff Avenue is situated on the oceanfront edge of Watch Hill where the homes overlook the Atlantic Ocean.

Including 160 feet of beach frontage, the landmark home at 10 Bluff Avenue features nine bedrooms and eight- and one-half bathrooms on three levels of living space. The home debuted on the Westerly landscape in the early 1900s known as “Seaesta”.  The summer colony of Watch Hill dates back to the mid 1800s with nine original grand hotels. As families from landlocked United States traveled by rail to the East Coast to escape the sultry summers, they disembarked in Stonington and took steamships to Watch Hill for true summer enjoyment. Soon, many decided to build their own rambling, shingled, summer ‘cottages’. “Seaesta” is a sterling example of these homes.

“This was a once in a generation listing because of the location in the village of Watch Hill, astounding ocean views, the white sand beach and the large parcel of land, which is over an acre,” says Donna Simmons. “I am thrilled for my clients who have decided to make Watch Hill their summer and weekend home!”

“We have an extremely strong presence in the Rhode Island luxury market,” adds Judy Chace, Broker/Co-Owner of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty. “This year we have participated in three of the top five sales in the state and represented half of those clients, while leading the state in residential sales over $3 million. Our company and our leadership in the luxury market continues to grow at a steady rate and we are looking forward to what we can accomplish next.”

“Watch Hill is a unique piece of Rhode Island history and our agents are an authority on this special community,” affirms Ray Mott, Broker/Co-Owner of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty. “We are impressed by the tireless efforts of our associates in the Watch Hill office.”
