The sale of 66 Williams Street is the highest ever recorded residential transaction in Providence, according to data available from Rhode Island Statewide Multiple Listing Service.

The estate offers over 11,000 square feet of gracious living on three impressively finished levels. Originally built in 1810 by prominent businessman John Corliss, the home was purchased in 1812 by wealthy merchant Edward Carrington upon his return from China where he served as American Consul. The estate remained in the family for three generations.

Liz Andrews has taken selling a house to a new level. She followed through on every detail and kept me informed as to the progress being made along the way,” says the seller, Jocelin Hamblett. “Liz was caring and considerate about the deep connection I have to my home and my desire to sell it to someone who would understand and share those feelings. She told me she would find that very buyer and she did! I can’t thank her enough for her understanding, thoughtfulness, kindness and professionalism.”

Situated on almost an acre of beautifully manicured grounds atop Providence’s historic College Hill, the home features a dramatic entrance with a curved staircase, an exquisite dining room, a significant two-story office, a chef’s kitchen and a large master suite. Additionally, the original horse stables remain connected to the residence. With intact stalls and radiant heated floors, the barn has been restored into an entertaining sanctuary complete with a caterer’s kitchen.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have represented the sellers in this one-of-a-kind sale,” says Judy Chace, Broker/Co-Owner of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty. “After representing clients in several top sales this year, we are closing out 2019 with the top sale in Providence.”

#GiveBackFriday: Holiday Season

In the spirit of holiday, Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty agents and employees are giving back to our communities. We are proud of our commitment to supporting local organizations throughout the year and elated to spread joy during the holiday season. Every year, our six offices participate in various holiday drives. We have had tremendous success and overwhelming results. This year we have partnered with several organizations statewide.

Our East Greenwich office is sponsoring a holiday food drive for the Rhode Island Food Bank.  We are accepting non-perishable food items and local supermarket gift certificates until December 20.  Donations can be dropped off at 572 Main Street, East Greenwich.

Offices of Narragansett, Charlestown, and Watch Hill are participating in HeadStart and South County Community Action’s Adopt a Family for the third year in a row. Sponsoring two families, totaling eleven family members, we are focused on providing the essentials and a few things off the kids wish lists. Our Providence office has also adopted four families this year, through Crossroads, and purchased each and every item on the wish list.

“These are all local families in need and it’s a great feeling knowing we can help bring a joyful and Merry Christmas to members of our community,” says Courtney Briggs, Senior Administrator.

In addition to adopting families, our Narragansett team coordinated a coat drive supporting the Welcome House and Jonnycake Center. On December 12, we hosted a cocktail and appetizer open house event where donations were made. Along with Kristin Dozois of HarborOne Mortgage, we were able to collect more than twenty bags of clothing!

Additionally, Barrington employees and agents are supporting a family through the Sojourner House. We are procuring presents for the family now through Monday, December 19 at the office located at 210 County Road, Barrington.

We thank each of these local groups for partnering with us during this season and look forward spreading holiday cheer in many years to come.
