First New England Charles Moore Home Just Listed

With views of Fisher’s Island Sound, the Pawcatuck River and No Bottom Pond, “Sun Up,” located at 10 No Bottom Ridge Road in Westerly is on the market for $1,775,000. Built in 1968 by renowned architect Charles Moore for the Klotz family, Sun Up features a unique architectural play on an octagon inside of a square.

“It is an honor to assist the Klotz family with the marketing and sale of their property. This magnificent Charles Moore designed home is truly a happy house filled with light, energy and cascading spaces. The playful Postmodern home speaks volumes about the creative joy of its owners. It is like living in a work of art surrounded by nature,” states DeeDee Buffum, listing agent of the property with Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty.

According to co-listing agent Jim Buffum, “Architectural design makes a difference in the happiness and well-being of the soul. Enjoy Sun Up’s interior spaces where your feet are grounded but your spirit soars up into cathedral-like ceilings and spaces where light plays with the imagination. We should all be so lucky to live in a space so nourishing to the spirit of humankind and inviting to the natural surroundings.”

Moore received a 1969 New England Architect’s Award and the property is in the RI Historic Preservation and Heritage Commission Survey of Westerly and can be viewed here.

“This is a truly unique property in Westerly with attention-demanding architecture at every turn. We are pleased to be representing this luxury home that has a distinctive place in Rhode Island history,” adds Ray Mott, Broker/Owner of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty.

Sun Up, sited so that its four corners point in the four cardinal directions, features four-bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms in a much larger design than Moore’s prior work. The dining room presents thirty-foot ceilings and windows that capture the southern sun and the master bedroom features a hand painted mural by the architect himself.

Judy Chace, Broker/Owner of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty remarks, “Sun Up features so many rare architectural features in a secluded, private community in town. We are excited to have the opportunity to list Sun Up for the Klotz family.”

The Klotz family, for whom the home was built, developed the gated No Bottom Pond neighborhood in Westerly.
