Preferred Homes at Palatable Prices

In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Joseph Dobiran highlighted that the appeal for year-round homes in the New England marketplace is on the rise. A state known for its inviting beaches and south county summer homes, families are flocking to claim a piece of Rhode Island real estate for more than just vacationing.  According to Dobrian, “…the idea of a primary year-round home in any of the five New England states seems to be gaining appeal, whether the dream home involves fresh or salt water, mountains, open countryside, or an urban or suburban experience.” The smallest state in the union has just about everything on this list.

In fact, Dobrian turned to Broker/Owner Judy Chace for insights on the capital city. Chace highlights on the drastic difference between what you can get in Rhode Island versus in other markets like Wellesley or Weston: “Some properties in Providence, if you moved them…[they] would be three times the price.”

A continual draw for Bostonians to gain more space for their buck, it’s no surprise that Realtor.com named Providence the number one market to watch for 2016. In fact, according to Rhode Island Statewide Multiple Listing Service, sales year to date are up over 1,000 units versus last year’s data. Currently, high-end listings are strong in number in the Ocean State with over 400 active listings over $1 million.
